For the more remote treks and boat trips you can contact Renatur, as they organize trips from a half day up to several days meeting your demands. Some possibilities. 

• Maicá; a water area east of Santarém, a rich birdlife, and you might as well see iguanas, sloths, crocodiles and freshwater dolphins.
• Igarapé Asu; this is a small creek through the island just across Santarém. There is plenty of birdlife, crocodiles, sloths , snakes and the beautiful victoria regia. There is a possibility for horseriding.
• 'Meeting of the waters';acrossSantarém you can have a look at the 'meeting of the waters', where the brown Amazon meets the black water of the Tapajos. Early in the morning and late in the afternoon you can often see the two kinds of freshwater dolphins here.
